Lombard Sewer Project Wins Statewide Engineering Award

The Village of Lombard has earned statewide recognition for its Large-Diameter Combined Sewer Lining Project, receiving a Special Achievement Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Illinois.

The award honors projects that demonstrate outstanding innovation, skill, and community impact. Lombard’s project—completed during the 2024–2025 construction seasons—focused on upgrading critical wastewater infrastructure using advanced trenchless technology, which allowed crews to repair pipes without major digging or disruption.

💡 Why it matters:

  • Strengthens aging sewer infrastructure
  • Improves system reliability
  • Reduces groundwater infiltration
  • Minimizes disruption to residents and local businesses

“This recognition reflects Lombard’s proactive investment in infrastructure that protects our community and environment,” said Public Works Director Carl Goldsmith.

The project was a collaborative effort involving multiple partners, including Christopher B. Burke Engineering, contractors, and regional agencies.

👉 Bottom line: Lombard continues to invest in smart, long-term infrastructure solutions that support public health, protect the environment, and keep the community running smoothly.

New Rules for E-Scooters, E-Bikes in Lombard

Fix a Leak Week: Save Water and Money at Home

The Village encourages residents to take part in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Fix a Leak Week, taking place March 16 - 22, 2026. This annual initiative highlights how simple actions at home can help conserve water and reduce utility costs.

Household leaks can waste nearly 1 trillion gallons of water nationwide each year, often from common sources like dripping faucets, running toilets and outdoor irrigation systems. Taking a few minutes to check for leaks can make a meaningful difference for your home and community.

Residents are also encouraged to use the Village’s WaterSmart Portal to monitor water usage and set up leak alerts. This tool provides helpful insights to better manage water use and avoid unexpected costs.

Save the Date: Coffee with the Village President Scheduled April 11

Residents are invited to attend the next Coffee with the Village President on Saturday, April 11, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Lombard Village Hall (255 E. Wilson Ave). This informal event offers residents the opportunity to speak directly with Village President Anthony Puccio and District 5 Trustee Dan Militello about Village initiatives, development projects and other community topics.

Coffee and light refreshments will be provided. The series supports the Village’s goal of expanding opportunities for community engagement and provides a relaxed setting for residents to ask questions and learn more about what is happening in Lombard.

Lombard Yard Waste Collection Begins April 7

Waste Management’s yard waste collection in Lombard runs from early April through mid-December, starting this year the week of April 7.

Yard waste must be placed in paper bags, cans, or bundled (tied with non-plastic twine), with each item under 50 pounds and properly sized.

A yard waste sticker is required for each item, now priced at $3.14.

Stickers are available at

  • Ace Hardware, 837 S. Westmore-Meyers, Lombard
  • Ace Hardware, 46 S Villa Ave, Villa Park
  • Jewel, 1177 S. Main Street, Lombard
  • Jewel, 33 E. St. Charles Road, Villa Park
  • Johnson’s Lighthouse BP, 1 W. St. Charles Road, Villa Park

Residents can also save money by composting or mulching. A seasonal curbside collection option is available for $160.85, and the Village offers a compost bin reimbursement program.

For details, visit villageoflombard.org/solidwaste or contact Lombard Public Works at (630) 620-5740.

Lombard Police St. Patrick's Results

The Lombard Police Department has released the results of its recent St. Patrick’s Day traffic safety campaign, focused on reducing impaired driving and encouraging seat belt use during the holiday enforcement period.

The campaign took place from March 13 through March 23, 2026, during which Lombard officers issued the following:

  • 56 seat belt citations
  • 4 child safety seat citations
  • 10 speeding citations
  • 10 distracted driving citations (cell phone use)
  • 21 other traffic citations (moving and non-moving)
  • 3 traffic-related arrests (no valid, suspended or revoked driver’s licenses)
  • 2 warrant arrests
  • 1 criminal arrest
  • 1 driving under the influence (DUI) arrest

“We enforce traffic laws with one goal in mind, and that is to keep people safe,” said Police Lieutenant Tom Balsitis. “Wearing your seat belt, staying focused behind the wheel and never driving impaired are simple steps that help prevent serious crashes.”

The Lombard Police Department joined forces with state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners for the St. Patrick’s Day enforcement campaign.

This campaign was supported by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Lilac Princesses Receive Tiaras at Maple Street Chapel

The five members of Lombard’s 2026 Lilac Court were officially honored during a tiara ceremony held March 16 at the Maple Street Chapel.

The Lombard Junior Women’s Club (LJWC) presented each princess with a tiara, sash, and flowers, while the Lombard Service League once again provided the tiaras for this cherished annual tradition.

This year’s Lilac Court includes Princess Alex Roimicher, Princess Charlotte Martin, Princess McKenna Schanks, Princess Lori Ong, and Princess Elle Turner. In a special moment during the ceremony, each princess briefly wore the original 1930 Lilac Queen crown, honoring the long-standing history of the program, which dates back nearly a century.

Roimicher, Martin, and Turner are juniors at Glenbard East High School. Schanks is a senior at Glenbard East, and Ong is a junior at Timothy Christian High School.

One of the five princesses will be crowned the 2026 Lilac Queen during the coronation ceremony at Lilacia Park on Saturday, May 2.
