Lombard Begins Spring Hydrant Maintenance

The Village of Lombard will kick off its annual hydrant maintenance program starting Monday, April 13, 2026, weather permitting.

Over the next four weeks, Public Works crews will service more than 1,000 fire hydrants across the community. Work will take place during the late afternoon and early evening hours and is not expected to disrupt water service.

What to Expect

This routine maintenance helps keep Lombard’s water system safe and reliable. Crews will:

  • Inspect hydrants
  • Lubricate moving parts
  • Ensure caps can be easily opened in emergencies

Work will primarily take place in areas from the Illinois Prairie Path south to Roosevelt Road.

Residents can view the hydrant maintenance map for specific locations or reach out to the Public Works Department at (630) 620-5740 or publicworks@villageoflombard.org with any questions.

👉 This important seasonal work ensures hydrants are ready when they’re needed most.

Get Reimbursed for Compost Bins and Rain Barrels

Did you know the Village offers reimbursements of up to $80 for a compost bin and $40 for a rain barrel? Taking advantage of these programs is simple. Download the application form, purchase your bin or barrel from any retailer, and submit the form along with your receipt and a photo showing the item installed at your home.

These programs are an easy way to reduce waste, conserve water and support a more sustainable community. To learn more and access the application forms, visit the Village’s Grants webpage.

Lombard Launches Voluntary Security Camera Registration Program to Support Community Safety

Residents and business owners in Lombard now have a new opportunity to play an active role in keeping their community safe. The Lombard Police Department has introduced a Security Camera Registration Program, designed to help deter crime and assist investigators—while maintaining full privacy and control for participants

How the Program Works

The program invites community members to voluntarily register the locations of their outdoor security cameras, video doorbells, and similar systems. By doing so, residents and businesses provide police with a simple way to know where cameras are located throughout the village.

If a crime occurs nearby, officers can quickly identify potential camera locations and reach out to owners to ask if they are willing to share relevant footage. This can significantly speed up investigations and help identify suspects more efficiently.

Privacy Comes First

A key feature of the program is its strong emphasis on privacy and voluntary participation:

  • No cost to join — registration is completely free
  • Fully voluntary — participation can be canceled at any time
  • No direct access — police cannot view or control your cameras
  • No obligation — you are never required to provide footage

The program simply acts as a registry, not a surveillance system. It allows the police to know who may be able to assist if an incident occurs—nothing more.

Why It Matters:

Knowing where cameras are located ahead of time can make a major difference in solving crimes. Instead of going door-to-door after an incident, officers can immediately contact nearby participants, saving valuable time during critical investigations.

Programs like this have proven effective in communities across the country by:

  • Increasing the likelihood of identifying suspects
  • Strengthening partnerships between residents and law enforcement
  • Helping deter criminal activity through increased visibility

How to Get Involved:

Joining the program is simple. Residents and business owners can complete a quick online registration form through the Village of Lombard. If needed, participants can update or remove their information at any time.

For questions or assistance, the police department can be reached at police@villageoflombard.org.

Community Safety Starts Locally

The Security Camera Registration Program is another example of how Lombard continues to invest in proactive, community-driven safety initiatives. By working together, residents, businesses, and law enforcement can help create a safer environment for everyone.

For those with existing security systems, this is an easy, no-cost way to make a meaningful impact—simply by being willing to help when it matters most.

Spring into Service: Make a Difference in Your Community

As the flowers begin to bloom and sunshine fills our days, spring brings the perfect opportunity to give back and brighten someone else’s life, too.

This season, a local volunteer team is inviting community members to step up, get involved, and make a meaningful impact right here in our area. Whether you have a few hours to spare or are looking for a more regular way to give back, there’s a place for you.

 Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • Food Pick-Ups: Help collect donations from local grocery stores
  • Food Pantry Support: Assist clients and help restock shelves
  • Senior Services: Lend a hand in the dining room and support older neighbors

Each role plays an important part in providing nourishment, connection, and care to those who need it most.

Beyond helping others, volunteering is also a wonderful way to meet new people, stay active, and feel more connected to the community. It’s a fresh season—and a fresh start—for making a real difference.

 Meet great people
 Give back locally
Be part of something meaningful

Even the smallest act of kindness can blossom into something beautiful.
