Trivia Question❓

Lilacia Park in Lombard began with just two lilac cuttings brought back from the gardens of which famed French lilac breeder?

Answer at the bottom of the newsletter

The “Lilac House” Brings Year-Round Joy to Lombard Neighborhood

One Lombard home is quickly becoming a neighborhood favorite during Lilac Time — and throughout the entire year.

Located at 417 W Woodland Ave in Lombard, Lilac House local resident Rob Moser has spent the past two years transforming his home with colorful themed lighting displays that brighten Woodland Avenue and bring smiles to neighbors of all ages.

“Last year was the first year we did a lilac theme,” said Moser. “I love bringing joy to the neighbors, and many have told us they love driving or walking by and seeing the lighting every month.”

The now well-known “Lilac House” changes themes monthly, giving residents something new to look forward to throughout the year. During Lilac Time, the home glows in shades of purple and lilac in celebration of Lombard’s beloved annual tradition.

The displays have become especially popular with local families. One story shared by Moser perfectly captures the impact the lights have had on the neighborhood.

“One neighbor from around the corner told us for Halloween that’s how they got their son to eat dinner,” Moser said. “He loved the lights and they told him, ‘If you eat your dinner, we can go see the lights.’”

Lighting times may vary slightly depending on the season and sunset.

For many Lombard residents, the “Lilac House” has become more than just a seasonal decoration — a small tradition, a neighborhood landmark, and another example of the community spirit that makes Lombard special. They have been placed in the Christmas contest for the last few years, too, which is their biggest decoration.

If you are out enjoying Lilac Time festivities this season, consider taking a drive or evening walk past the Lilac House and experience the colorful display for yourself.

GFWC Lombard Service League Celebrated 75 Years!

The GFWC Lombard Service League recently celebrated its 75th anniversary by welcoming five past presidents to share memories and milestones from their years leading the club. Members enjoyed looking through scrapbooks and memorabilia that highlighted the organization’s long history of community service in Lombard.

Five past presidents reminisced about serving from the 1970s through the 2020s. Pictured with the presidents’ scrapbooks are (left to right) Barbara Madigan, Anna Weselak, Claudia Arroyo, Jean Nelson, and Darlene Wingard. Lombard Service League is celebrating its 75th year as a Lombard club and as a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Founded in 1950 by former members of the Lombard Junior Women’s Club, Lombard Service League was created so women could continue meeting in the evenings after aging out of the junior club system at the time.

Today, the club remains active in supporting local, state, and international charities, providing scholarships to Glenbard East and Willowbrook students, and helping with many community events, including Lombard Historical Society activities, Soaring Eagle Trunk or Treat, the Lombard Man and Woman of the Year program, and the Lilac Queen Coronation.

The Lombard Service League meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at Lexington Square. To learn more, visit their Facebook page or website, or call/text 630-988-0625.

🐾 ADOPT A PET – Meet Braco 🐾

Looking for a loyal best friend? Meet Braco — a handsome 4-year-old German Shepherd with a gentle heart and soulful eyes. ❤️

Braco recently lost the only home he knew after his senior owner had to move and could no longer care for him. He’s adjusting to a big change and is hoping to find a patient, loving family to help him feel safe and connected again.

🐶 Breed: German Shepherd Dog
🐶 Age: 4 Years Old
🐶 Weight: 70 lbs
🐶 House Trained
🐶 Neutered & Current on Shots
🐶 Sweet but a little timid right now

Braco has lived a quieter life and would do best with someone who understands that he may need a little extra love and reassurance while he settles in. Once he trusts you, he’s ready to become a loyal companion for life.

Interested in meeting Braco?
Please fill out an adoption application at:

💡 Answer to Trivia Question:

Victor Lemoine — the Plums returned from Nancy, France, with two of his lilac varieties, which became the foundation of today’s collection. The first two lilac varieties that Colonel William Plum and Helen Plum brought back from Victor Lemoine’s gardens in Nancy, France, were:

  • Syringa vulgaris ‘Mme Casimir Périer’ — a double white lilac

  • Syringa vulgaris ‘Michel Buchner’ — a double lilac‑colored (purple) variety

These two cultivars formed the foundation of the entire Lilacia Park collection.
