Cricket Creek Trail Connection to Expand DuPage County Access |
Planned Route 83 crossing could improve regional trails near Villa Park and Elmhurst |

DuPage County’s growing trail network is one step closer to becoming easier to explore, thanks to the Cricket Creek Trail Connection Project near Villa Park and Elmhurst.
The planned connection is intended to improve how cyclists and walkers travel between several popular regional trails.
The project focuses on a connection near Route 83 and North Avenue, including a proposed pedestrian and bicycle crossing over Route 83 north of North Avenue.
That crossing is designed to help link the Cricket Creek Trail with the broader trail system serving DuPage County.
Nearby routes include the Salt Creek Greenway Trail, the Great Western Trail and the Illinois Prairie Path.
Together, these paths offer residents opportunities for walking, bicycling, exercise and exploring neighboring communities without having to plan an entirely separate trip for each trail.
For Villa Park residents, better connections could make it simpler to head toward Elmhurst, Addison and other parts of DuPage County for a longer recreational outing.
Connecting trails is about more than adding mileage to a map.
It can also create more convenient routes for families, commuters and anyone who enjoys spending time outdoors.
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is involved in the regional trail effort, which has drawn attention from local officials and community members.
Trail users should be aware that construction-related changes or closures may affect access, and should check current notices before heading out.
An afternoon ride may eventually become a chance to visit more than one trail and discover businesses and destinations along the way.
For example, cyclists exploring the northern portions of the network can look into dining stops in the Addison area, including Greenway Table & Tap.
While the project promises more connected outdoor recreation, the important distinction is that planned connections are not necessarily open for use today.
Residents can find project updates, trail maps and current access information through the Forest Preserve District before planning a trip.
Improved connections could give people in Villa Park, Lombard, Glen Ellyn and neighboring communities another reason to get outside and explore. |
