CROP Hunger Walk in Lombard Raises $18,300 for Hunger Relief |
Nearly 90 walkers honor Terry Witt as community fundraiser continues toward $25,000 goal |

Local neighbors turned out in support of hunger relief on October 4, when the 2026 Great Prairie CROP Hunger Walk brought an estimated 90 participants to Lombard.
Organized into 13 teams, walkers covered a three-mile route along the Illinois Prairie Path and Great Western Trail amid beautiful fall weather.
The event has raised $18,300 toward its $25,000 fundraising goal, with additional donations still expected.
This year's theme, Reach for the Stars—Walk for Our Neighbors, honored Terry Witt, a longtime walk supporter remembered for his dedication to education, astronomy, cycling and faith.
Two of Witt's nieces joined the walk and shared memories of his enthusiasm for the annual effort.
The day's community service continued after participants crossed the finish line, as volunteers assembled 100 hygiene kits for Church World Service.
The celebration of giving also included an October 2 mini-walk at Beacon Hill, where residents participated by walking around the pond.
Money raised will support international disaster relief through Church World Service as well as food assistance organizations close to home.
Local beneficiaries include The Outreach House and Community Table in Lombard, Disciples Food Pantry in Villa Park, Food for the Soul in Addison, and United Community Concerns Association in Elmhurst.
Together, these organizations provide a local connection to a broader mission: helping neighbors facing food insecurity while supporting people affected by crises elsewhere.
With the walk completed, the fundraising effort continues as organizers work toward the $25,000 target.
Community members who want to contribute can visit the Lombard event page at CROP Hunger Walk's official website and search for the Lombard, Illinois walk.
Every additional gift helps carry the spirit of this year's walk beyond the October event. |
