Glen Ellyn Cuts Commuter Parking Rates During Station Work |
2027 and 2028 permits are discounted as construction prepares to shift parking locations |

Glen Ellyn commuter parking will shift during construction of the new downtown train station and pedestrian underpass, and the village is lowering permit prices for the two years most likely to be affected.
Annual train station permits for 2027 and 2028 will cost $460 for residents and $690 for nonresidents, while merchant permits will cost $230.
The reduced rates acknowledge that commuters may need to change their routines as work advances around the station.
Nothing changes immediately when 2027 permits begin.
Permit holders may continue using the existing train station parking lots until construction requires those lots to close.
Once closures begin, train station permit holders will be reassigned to the Duane Street and Lorraine Street lot.
That relocation is the central change commuters should plan for, especially riders who now park closer to the tracks or approach downtown from another direction.
The village also plans to move daily parking paid through Passport Parking.
When the station lots close, daily parking will no longer be offered at Duane and Lorraine or at Main Street and the Prairie Path.
Instead, daily Passport Parking will be available at the Duane Street and Forest Avenue lot.
Construction and parking-relocation dates have not yet been finalized.
Officials say commuters will receive advance notice before the new arrangements take effect, so permit holders do not need to move vehicles or alter their regular parking location yet.
The uncertainty makes that advance notice especially important.
Daily riders will need enough time to identify the replacement lot, adjust walking time and account for any changes to their morning route.
The parking plan is tied to the larger downtown station project, which includes a new pedestrian underpass intended to improve access across the tracks.
Work of that scale can temporarily reduce available parking and alter how commuters reach the platforms.
Residents purchasing a 2027 or 2028 permit should keep their contact information current and watch for official notices about lot closures and reassignment.
Occasional riders should also check the Passport Parking location before each trip once construction begins.
The key point for now is simple: current parking remains in place, discounted permits are available for 2027 and 2028, and the move to replacement lots will happen only after the village announces a firm construction schedule. |
