Glen Ellyn Denies Special Use Permit for Duane Street Salon |
Trustees split 3–2 over The Parlor proposal in the downtown retail district |

Plans for The Parlor at 524 Duane Street will not move forward under the requested permit after Glen Ellyn trustees voted 3–2 against approval September 28.
The proposed salon would have occupied a 700-square-foot space formerly used by Alla Moda Boutique.
The disagreement centered on preserving downtown retail space for shopping rather than approving another service business.
Supporters favored filling the vacant storefront and pointed to the salon’s potential to draw customers downtown.
Applicants Michael and Jennifer Hilmers also described a retail component featuring hair-care products.
The Plan Commission had recommended approval in August.
The board’s decision rejects this request for the Duane Street location; it does not establish a villagewide prohibition on salons.
