Glen Ellyn homeowners turned their front lawns into scenes of Halloween magic, and neighbors made their favorites known with 692 votes in the 2026 Halloween House Decorating Contest.
Four categories recognized eight standout displays, from glowing graveyards and towering skeletons to an imaginative Wild West ghost town.
Best Overall honors went to 306 Forest Avenue, which received 46 votes for a seasonal display featuring pumpkins, haunting figures and a dramatic entrance.
Second place went to 254 Exmoor Avenue with 39 votes, where towering, colorful skeleton clowns and red lighting brought a carnival-like fright to the front yard.
The Spookiest winner was 586 Lowden Avenue, leading the contest with an impressive 99 votes.
Its purple-lit yard was filled with ghostly figures, skeletons and eerie characters surrounding a large tree.
Runner-up 562 Forest Avenue earned 74 votes for an elaborate cemetery scene washed in striking red and blue lighting.
In the Monster Mash category, 22W262 Illinois Route 53 took first place with 65 votes, delighting visitors with giant illuminated eyes, a web of lights and playful spooky details.
75 Sunset Avenue claimed second place with 38 votes for a yard packed with tombstones, skeletal figures, dramatic lighting and a haunting stage-like display.
Creativity had its own spotlight in this year's contest, and the Most Creative award went to 336 Prospect Avenue with 49 votes.
That display featured an imaginative mix of a hovering ghost, an oversized red creature, a scarecrow and colorful Halloween lighting.
Second place went to 2W147 McCarron Road with 42 votes for a handcrafted ghost town complete with a jail, saloon, bank and covered wagon.
Together, these decorations show just how much imagination and hard work local residents bring to the holiday.
The biggest winners may be the families and neighbors who spent October exploring the displays and sharing their favorites.
Congratulations to all of the winners, and thank you to every homeowner who decorated, every visitor who explored the neighborhoods and every resident who voted.
There is still time to enjoy the displays before Halloween.
