Glenbard 87 Plans Major Dual-Credit Expansion for 2027–28
Students could earn up to 37 transferable college-credit hours through an expanded partnership with College of DuPage

Glenbard District 87 is preparing a major expansion of its dual-credit partnership with the College of DuPage for the 2027–28 school year.

The proposal would add 12 dual-credit courses in science, social studies and world languages, along with a new Digital Art and Animation 2 course.

The courses were presented to the Board of Education on Oct. 13 after review by department chairs, assistant principals for instruction, principals and the instructional councils at all four Glenbard high schools.

The district’s Student Performance and Achievement Committee reviewed the plan on Oct. 7 and recommended that it move to the full board for approval.

The proposal remains preliminary until the Board of Education takes final action.

Courses under consideration include dual-credit psychology, environmental science, biological science and advanced French, German and Spanish offerings.

Many would replace or expand current Advanced Placement and upper-level courses while allowing students to earn both Glenbard graduation credit and College of DuPage credit.

The larger goal is an expanded Glenbard College Core made up of 17 Illinois Articulation Initiative general-education courses.

District 87 says participating juniors and seniors could earn as many as 37 hours of transferable college credit during the regular school day.

The classes would be taught by qualified Glenbard teachers who also serve as College of DuPage adjunct faculty, and students would not pay additional tuition for the coursework.

For families, the expansion could reduce the amount of college coursework students need to complete after high school.

It could also give students experience with college-level expectations while they continue to receive support from teachers and counselors in their high-school setting.

The proposed program would reach students at Glenbard East, Glenbard South, Glenbard West and Glenbard North.

Because the credits are part of the Illinois Articulation Initiative, the district says they are designed to transfer broadly among participating colleges and universities.

Students and families will still need to confirm how individual institutions apply transferred credits toward particular majors or degree requirements.

The next step is full board consideration of the recommended 2027–28 course additions.
