Halloween Impaired Driving Enforcement Steps Up in Lombard |
Lombard Police increase patrols October 23–November 2 and encourage sober rides and pedestrian safety |

Lombard drivers will see extra police traffic enforcement during the Halloween season as the Lombard Police Department steps up efforts to identify impaired drivers.
The campaign runs from Friday, October 23, through the morning of Monday, November 2, 2026, as families attend seasonal celebrations and neighborhood trick-or-treating.
Officers are focusing on motorists who drive after drinking alcohol or using cannabis. Both substances can impair reaction time, judgment, and the ability to drive safely.
Police encourage residents to decide how they will get home before heading to a party or gathering. The safest choice is to designate a sober driver, arrange a rideshare or taxi, use public transportation if available, or stay overnight.
A driver should never attempt to drive while impaired, even for a short trip across town. If friends or family members are impaired, help them find a safe alternative rather than handing over the keys.
The department also wants drivers to be especially watchful of people walking near roads throughout the Halloween festivities. Children wearing costumes may be harder to see after dark, and excited trick-or-treaters can move unpredictably near streets and driveways.
Reduce speed in residential areas, look carefully at intersections and crosswalks, and put away distractions. Use extra caution when pulling out of driveways and parking spaces.
Residents can make the celebration safer by keeping an eye on neighbors, reminding teen drivers about sober driving and supporting anyone who needs a ride.
With a little planning and patience behind the wheel, families can enjoy the Halloween season and return home safely. |
