The Willowbrook High School baseball team concluded its remarkable 2026 season with a 5-2 loss to York in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Class 4A regional final on Saturday, May 30.
Despite the setback, the Warriors achieved a school-record 29 wins, finishing the season at 29-7.
They also secured the West Suburban Gold Conference title with a perfect 18-0 record.
Senior shortstop Jory Crocker played a pivotal role, leading the team with a .488 batting average, 37 RBIs, and seven triples.
He also contributed four saves as the team's closer.
Head coach Vic Wisner, a 1985 Willowbrook graduate, concluded his tenure with this game.
Wisner, who has been at the helm since 2011, is retiring from both teaching and coaching.
Reflecting on the season, Wisner noted the team's resilience after a 1-4 start, highlighting their trust in each other and the momentum gained during their spring break trip to Tennessee.
Senior Jake Bonino, one of 14 seniors on the team, shared an emotional embrace with Wisner after the game, symbolizing the strong bond between the coach and his players.
As the community bids farewell to Wisner, the Warriors' impressive season stands as a testament to his leadership and the team's dedication. |
