Lombard Fire Department Recognition and Awards in Lombard, Illinois

Celebrating the Hartmann Award and notable fire department achievements

The Lombard Fire Department has once again demonstrated its commitment to exceptional emergency medical care, earning the 2nd Runner-Up position for the prestigious Hartmann Award from the Good Samaritan EMS System.

This accolade, named after Dr. Joseph Hartmann, honors outstanding performance in pre-hospital emergency services. Out of approximately 25,000 EMS calls annually, only three incidents receive this recognition, underscoring the significance of this achievement.

The department's recognition stems from their swift and effective response to a critical situation involving a 34-year-old woman suffering from a severe asthma attack. Upon arrival, firefighters/paramedics found the patient in critical respiratory distress with dangerously low oxygen levels. As her condition rapidly deteriorated and she lost consciousness, crews immediately provided advanced life support, including airway management, assisted breathing, and medications. Their prompt actions and coordinated efforts stabilized the patient, leading to a positive outcome.

This marks the second consecutive year the Lombard Fire Department has been honored with a Hartmann Award. In 2025, they were named First Runner-Up for their exceptional care of a 17-year-old male experiencing a severe asthma attack that had progressed to loss of consciousness and inadequate breathing. The team's decisive actions and clinical expertise resulted in the patient's stabilization and recovery.

Beyond these accolades, the department actively engages with the community through various initiatives. Notably, in October 2024, they donated $5,012 to the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital Bhorade Cancer Center, proceeds from their 11th Annual Pink T-Shirt Fundraiser aimed at raising breast cancer awareness. Additionally, their annual Toy Parade in December 2024 saw residents braving inclement weather to donate toys and baby supplies, reflecting the strong bond between the department and the community.

The Village of Lombard extends its heartfelt congratulations to the dedicated members of the fire department. Their unwavering commitment to excellence and community service continues to make a profound difference when every second counts.
