The Lombard Historical Society will honor local veterans through a special Military Memorials walking tour at Lombard Cemetery on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 1 p.m..
The tour explores stories of men and women from the Lombard area who served in the military, including veterans whose service dates from the War of 1812 through World War II.
Visitors will learn about individual lives, military experiences and the enduring impact of service on families and the community.
This year's program includes new stories, offering returning guests additional historical perspectives.
The Historical Society will also share ongoing efforts to preserve and restore military gravesites in Lombard Cemetery.
The event takes place at Lombard Cemetery, 462 S. Main Street, and is recommended for ages 12 and older.
Admission is $5 for Historical Society members and $7 for nonmembers.
The outdoor guided walk lasts approximately 45 minutes and passes over uneven ground.
Participants should dress for November weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.
The tour is planned to take place rain or shine.
By telling the stories behind familiar headstones, the Historical Society helps neighbors understand how national military history connects to the people and places of Lombard.
The program also draws attention to the importance of caring for the local markers and memorials that preserve those memories.
Anyone interested in military history, historic cemeteries or the community's past can find something meaningful in this Veterans Day weekend program.
Join the tour on Saturday, November 14, at 1 p.m. to remember the people whose service remains part of Lombard's story. |
