The Lombard Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (LCPAAA) is asking neighbors and local businesses to help make its 28th annual Shop-With-A-Cop program a joyful holiday experience for children and families in Lombard.

The volunteer organization hopes to brighten the season for at least 10 local families who may otherwise have a difficult Christmas.

Shop-With-A-Cop pairs children nominated by Lombard schools with officers from the Lombard Police Department and Citizens Police Academy alumni for a memorable day of shopping and activities.

The experience begins with a procession of squad cars, complete with lights and sirens, before the group visits Dick’s Sporting Goods and JCPenney.

Along the way, children have a chance to choose gifts and spend time with the officers and volunteers who serve their community.

The program is about far more than holiday shopping: it brings families encouragement, personal attention and a reminder that Lombard neighbors care.

The LCPAAA is a nonprofit group made up of graduates of the Lombard Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy.

Throughout the year, its members assist with community activities and support the police department when requested.

Shop-With-A-Cop is the association’s largest and most important annual effort.

To make this year's event successful, organizers are seeking community donations and sponsorship support.

Residents, businesses and organizations can contribute to help provide gifts and holiday cheer for the participating children.

Even a modest contribution can make a meaningful difference when the community works together.

Those interested in supporting the program or learning how to contribute can contact the association through its official website, lombardcpaaa.org.

With the community’s help, the 28th Shop-With-A-Cop can create another round of holiday memories for children who deserve a special day.
