Lombard's Winter Blood Drive Achieves Remarkable Success

Community's Generosity Shines During National Blood Donor Month

January, recognized as National Blood Donor Month, serves as a vital period to honor those who selflessly donate blood and to inspire others to contribute to this life-saving cause.

The Village of Lombard recently hosted its Winter Blood Drive, where the community's generosity was on full display.

Through this event, a total of 65 pints of blood were collected, potentially saving up to 195 lives.

Since the inception of this program in 1988, Lombard has organized 386 blood drives, amassing over 20,353 units of blood and potentially saving up to 61,059 lives.

These impressive figures underscore the community's unwavering commitment to supporting those in need.

In collaboration with Versiti Blood Centers, the Village of Lombard hosts seasonal blood drives at Yorktown Center and the First Church of Lombard.

These events offer residents convenient opportunities to make a significant impact.

The remaining blood drives for 2026 are scheduled for April 14, June 9, and September 8.

Additionally, a special blood drive will be held on November 10 to honor Veterans and former Village President Bill Mueller.

Despite these efforts, critical blood shortages persist nationwide.

Blood donations are essential to maintaining a stable supply for patients undergoing surgeries, cancer treatments, and emergency care.

Each donation ensures that hospitals have the necessary resources to respond to both routine medical needs and unexpected emergencies.

Donating blood is a simple yet profound way to give back to the community.

One pint of blood can save up to three lives, and the process typically takes less than an hour.

Healthy individuals aged 17 and older (or 16 with parental consent) are encouraged to participate.

For more information on becoming a blood donor or to schedule your donation, contact Blood Drive Coordinator Carol Bauer at (630) 620-5712.

Remember, it takes only an hour to be a hero and save a life—donating blood is safe, simple, and saves lives.
