New baskets, tee boxes and updated hole layouts expected by year’s end

Madison Meadow’s disc golf course is getting a new look, but local players will need to put their rounds on hold while crews finish the work.

The Lombard Park District has temporarily closed the popular course for a renovation that started in early October 2026 and is expected to be complete before the end of the year.

The project includes new tee boxes and disc golf baskets across the course, along with adjustments to the layouts of selected holes.

Additional trees will also be planted, introducing different obstacles and strategic choices for players lining up their throws.

For longtime disc golfers, those changes could make familiar fairways feel fresh, while giving newcomers a more engaging place to learn the game.

The work is intended to create a better experience for players of varying skill levels, although the course will remain unavailable until construction is finished.

Located near East Madison Street and South Ahrens Avenue, Madison Meadow Park covers approximately 91.7 acres and is among Lombard’s largest recreation destinations.

Beyond disc golf, visitors can enjoy playgrounds, athletic fields, a skate park, a fishing and boating pond, and a walking trail measuring approximately 1.56 miles.

The park also includes the Madison Meadow Athletic Center, making it a familiar gathering place for residents and visitors throughout the year.

Players looking for an alternative during the closure can consider the nine-hole disc golf course at Lombard Common, located at 433 E. St. Charles Road.

That separate course is not included in the Madison Meadow renovation.

There is not yet a confirmed reopening day, so players should treat the end-of-year completion target as an estimate rather than a scheduled opening.

The district has not announced a project cost or a more detailed construction calendar on its capital projects page.

The Madison Meadow improvements are part of a broader capital planning effort that considers facility conditions, community priorities, safety, accessibility, and available funding.

Residents interested in returning for the first round on the refreshed course can watch for official reopening information from the park district.

Until then, the temporary closure is a reminder that even well-loved neighborhood recreation spaces occasionally need an upgrade.

When play resumes, regulars can look forward to testing new basket placements, updated tee areas, and the different shot decisions introduced by the redesigned holes.
