Drivers and pedestrians in downtown Lombard should plan for temporary closures as the Village restores the brick-paver crosswalk on Main Street immediately north of St. Charles Road.

DATE: Monday, October 5, through Friday, October 16, 2026, weather permitting.

Location: Main Street immediately north of St. Charles Road, Lombard.

Both southbound through lanes will close, with traffic shifted into the existing left-turn lane, which will temporarily accommodate through traffic and left and right turns.

The affected pedestrian crossing will also close, while the intersection’s other three crossings will remain open.

The work is expected to cause delays at this busy downtown intersection, and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.

Allow extra travel time and follow posted signs when approaching the work area.

The brick-paver crosswalk was affected by utility repairs earlier this year.

Because it was originally installed through a state-funded grant project, the Village needed state approval before restoring it; that approval is now in place.

The schedule is weather-dependent, so check the Village’s notice for updates.
