New Philharmonic Brings a Tribute to Scotland to Glen Ellyn |
October 24–25 concerts feature guest violinist David Taylor and works by Mendelssohn, Bruch and Davies |

New Philharmonic continues its 50th season in Glen Ellyn with A Tribute to Scotland, a program featuring music by Mendelssohn, Bruch and Peter Maxwell Davies.
DATE: Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, 2026
TIME: Saturday at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday at 3 p.m.
LOCATION: McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Boulevard, Glen Ellyn
The program pairs Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 3, “Scottish,” with Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy and Davies’ An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise.
Guest violinist David Taylor, assistant concertmaster of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will be featured in Bruch’s work.
Traditional Scottish melodies shape the Scottish Fantasy, giving the solo violin a central role in the concert’s musical journey.
Mendelssohn’s symphony evokes Scotland’s landscapes and historic ruins, while Davies’ piece brings an island wedding celebration into the concert hall, complete with a live bagpiper.
The three works offer contrasting ways to experience Scotland through orchestral music, from sweeping symphonic passages to folk-inspired violin writing and a festive wedding scene.
A free MAC Chat begins one hour before each performance, giving concertgoers an opportunity to learn more about the music before taking their seats.
The orchestra is based at the McAninch Arts Center and is led by music director and conductor Kirk Muspratt.
For ticket availability and current pricing, visit the MAC event page or call the box office at (630) 942-4000.
The MAC notes a $3 per-ticket fee, with additional fees applying to online purchases. |
