For Lombard families, fall festivals can turn a familiar weekend into an easy escape filled with music, color and time outdoors.

One nearby example is Oaktoberfest in Glen Ellyn, where past celebrations have made native oak trees the main attraction.

Held at Lake Ellyn Park, the event has offered a setting that feels especially fitting once autumn colors begin to spread.

DATE: SATURDAY OCT 10th

TIME: 3 pm -7 pm

LOCATION: Lake Ellyn

Previous activities included guided oak tree tours, giving visitors a closer look at the trees that shape the park's landscape.

For children, a tree treasure hunt and an acorn craft made that lesson feel more like play than homework.

Live music, face painting and a collaborative art project added variety for families who wanted to linger beyond a walk.

Past festivities also featured a craft beer garden, offering adults a chance to relax while the younger crowd stayed busy.

Some beer garden proceeds helped support Glen Ellyn Park District programs and scholarships, adding a community benefit to the outing.

That mix of entertainment and environmental learning is what sets Oaktoberfest apart from a typical afternoon of seasonal attractions.

It also makes a useful reminder that family fall activities do not have to revolve around a long drive.

From Lombard, Glen Ellyn offers a nearby change of scenery without asking parents to plan an entire day around travel.

The appeal is simple: children get room to explore, while adults can appreciate the shade and history of mature oaks.

Those trees are more than a pretty backdrop; they help support the wildlife that gives local parks their character.

For families comparing fall festivals near Lombard, events that connect fun with the local landscape deserve a closer look.

Past Oaktoberfest activities provide a good starting point, but this year's schedule and offerings should be confirmed before making plans.

Even without a festival, a crisp afternoon among neighborhood oaks can deliver its own memorable autumn outing.
