The Outreach House in Lombard has received a $163,000 grant to expand its First Things First Diaper Bank, DuPage County’s only ongoing diaper distribution program. The funding comes from the DuPage Community Transformation Partnership, a collaboration between DuPage County and the DuPage Foundation.

The grant will support construction of a 3,200-square-foot addition connected to The Outreach House’s facility at 700 Springer Drive. The new space will be used to receive, store and distribute diapers to local families and nonprofit partners throughout DuPage County.

The Outreach House currently distributes more than 200,000 diapers annually. The expansion will allow the organization to build a countywide network serving families through neighborhood food pantries and community organizations.

Diaper insecurity remains a significant concern, with nearly half of DuPage County families with young children struggling to maintain an adequate supply. Diapers can cost approximately $100 per child each month and are not covered by SNAP or WIC benefits.

Renovations are expected to be completed by mid-December, with the organization preparing to receive its first large-scale diaper shipment later this year.
