The Outreach House Celebrates a Year of Growth with a Community Open House
|

The Outreach House is inviting the community to celebrate a milestone year of growth and learn more about the services it provides to families throughout DuPage County.
A Community Open House will be held Tuesday, September 15, at The Outreach House’s Lombard facility. The event marks one year of service at the organization’s current Springer Drive location and coincides with National Diaper Need Awareness Week, bringing additional attention to a growing need among local families.

Since moving into the facility one year ago, The Outreach House has expanded its ability to assist neighbors throughout DuPage County through four core programs: its Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, First Things First Diaper Bank, and Walk-In Assistance program, which provides emergency support.
Addressing Diaper Need in DuPage CountyOne area experiencing significant growth is the First Things First Diaper Bank, DuPage County’s first diaper bank hub. The program distributes diapers through a network of local partner organizations, helping families who may struggle to afford this basic necessity.
According to the National Diaper Bank Network, more than 7 million diapers are needed to address diaper insecurity in DuPage County alone. Diapers can cost families approximately $100 per month per child and are not covered by WIC or SNAP benefits. For some families, that creates extremely difficult choices.
The diaper bank program is funded in part through a grant from the DuPage Community Transformation Partnership, a collaboration between DuPage County and the DuPage Foundation. A Chance to See What’s NextThe open house will give residents an opportunity to tour the organization, learn about its programs and see firsthand how The Outreach House has grown during its first year at the Springer Drive location. Local and state elected officials have also been invited to participate in the celebration.
“One year ago, we took a leap of faith moving into this space, and today it’s clear that leap paid off for our whole community,” Executive Director Catherine Lynott said. “We’ve grown our programs, deepened our partnerships, and reached more neighbors than ever before.”
The event is free and open to the public, and guests are encouraged to register in advance and bring a friend. |
