Local libraries have a busy week ahead with hands-on STEM activities, family programs, technology help, seasonal events and community service opportunities across Lombard, Glen Ellyn and Villa Park.

 

Helen Plum Library — Lombard

LEGO Science in Motion — Tuesday, Oct. 6 | 4–4:45 p.m.

Grades 3–5 can explore science concepts using LEGO bricks and motors. Registration and a Helen Plum Library card are required.

Versiti Community Blood Drive — Wednesday, Oct. 7 | 2:30–7 p.m.

Versiti will hold a community blood drive at the library to help meet local hospital demand.

Go Nuts for Donuts Storytime — Saturday, Oct. 10 | 10:30–11 a.m.

Families can enjoy stories, songs and rhymes along with donuts for the kids.

Evening Storytime in Lilacia Park — Monday, Oct. 12 | 5–5:30 p.m.

Helen Plum takes storytime outdoors to Lilacia Park for families with children of all ages.

Teen Make @ Home: Ghost Portrait — Monday, Oct. 12 | All Day

Grades 6–12 can stop by the Teen Corner for supplies to create a spooky-season ghost portrait at home, while supplies last.

 

Glen Ellyn Public Library

The Success Hack — Tuesday, Oct. 6 | 6–7 p.m.

High school students from across DuPage County are invited to a session with educator and life coach Patrick Donohue focused on perfectionism, procrastination, mindset and time management. Registration required.

Beginner 3D Printing — Wednesday, Oct. 7 | 4–5 p.m.

Students in grades 3–8 can learn Tinkercad and design an item to be 3D printed and taken home. Registration required.

Storytime in the Park with the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Department — Thursday, Oct. 8 | 10:30–11 a.m.

Families can enjoy stories and songs at Newton Park, meet volunteer firefighters and explore a fire engine. Weather permitting.

Music. Movement. Spanish. Fun! — Friday, Oct. 9 | 10–10:45 a.m.

Children ages 2–6 and their grownups can learn introductory Spanish through singing, listening and repetition.

Tech Help Drop-In — Saturday, Oct. 10 | 1–3 p.m.

Bring questions about phones, tablets, laptops, apps or other technology for one-on-one troubleshooting help.

 

Villa Park Public Library

Latin & South American Cuisine — Tuesday, Oct. 6 | 6:30–8 p.m.

Chef Susan Maddox will explore the flavors of Latin and South American cuisine. The program currently has a waitlist.

LEGO Builders Club — Wednesday, Oct. 7 | 3:30–4:30 p.m.

Elementary and middle school students can use the library’s LEGO collection to create their own builds. The program currently has a waitlist.

Monster Mash — Thursday, Oct. 8 | 3:30–4:30 p.m.

Elementary and middle school students can get into the Halloween spirit with a seasonal afternoon program. Registration is required, and the program currently has a waitlist.

LEGO DUPLO Build + Play — Friday, Oct. 9 | 10–10:30 a.m.

Children ages 2–5 and their adults can build, play and socialize using the library’s DUPLO bricks.

VPPL at Autumn Jubilee — Saturday, Oct. 10 | 11 a.m.–5 p.m.

Look for the Villa Park Public Library at Autumn Jubilee at the Historical Museum and Prairie Path. The community celebration includes food trucks, craft vendors, children’s activities, face painting and a haunted trail.
