Keep those Halloween pumpkins out of the trash: all three towns have composting events on Saturday, November 7.

This week’s parks and recreation highlights also include local youth theater, a neon-themed family dance, senior bingo and an important winter-program registration date.

Here is what to know for November 3–9, 2026.

Lombard Park District

Pumpkin Smash — Saturday, November 7, 9 a.m.–noon: Bring pumpkins to the east parking lot at Lombard Common, 433 E. St. Charles Road, for this free composting event.

Only pumpkins are accepted, and they must be free of contaminating decorations such as glitter, googly eyes and candles; the district also lists excess paint as unacceptable.

The event brings together the Lombard Junior Women’s Club, Lombard Park District, Village of Lombard, Kiwanis Club, Waste Management and SCARCE.

Haters — Friday, November 6, through Sunday, November 8: Lombard Park District’s autumn youth theater production brings Don Zolidis’ comedy to the stage.

The story follows a school recycling challenge that grows into a frantic effort to collect 20,000 cans and win a dream reward.

Support the young cast with a local theater outing, and use the district’s theater page to confirm performance times, the venue and ticket arrangements.

Glen Ellyn Park District

Friday Senior Bingo — Friday, November 6, 12:30–2:30 p.m.: Adults ages 55 and older can play at Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center.

No registration is required; cards cost $1 each, with free cards for Ackerman SFC members and a limit of one card per game.

Autumn Masquerade — Friday, November 6, 6:30–8:30 p.m.: Children ages 3–11 and an accompanying adult can enjoy a neon-themed evening at Abbington Distinctive Banquets, 3S002 Route 53.

The event includes a DJ, photo booth and ice cream sundae bar, with participants encouraged to wear bright neon colors.

Every adult and child attending must register; the listed resident/nonresident fee is $37/$50 per person.

The district notes that the event may be full, so check the registration system for availability or a waiting list.

Winter 2027 registration — Saturday, November 7, at 8 a.m.: Resident registration opens for programs in the new Winter Playbook.

Browse the guide beforehand and check the activities you want to book; nonresident registration begins November 14 at 8 a.m.

Pumpkin Smash — Saturday, November 7, 9–11 a.m.: Bring pumpkins to Village Green Park, 130 S. Lambert Road.

This all-ages event is free, with no registration required.

Remove candles and decorations, and leave painted pumpkins at home because they cannot be accepted.

You may drop off pumpkins or bring your own baseball bat or shovel to help smash them; check the district’s weather hotline for outdoor-event updates.

Villa Park Parks & Recreation

Community Pumpkin Smash — Saturday, November 7, 9 a.m.–noon: Go Green Villa Park hosts the community composting event at VFW Post 2801, 39 E. St. Charles Road.

The village lists SCARCE as sponsor and thanks the VFW and LRS for their support.

This community event gives Villa Park residents a nearby option for keeping their pumpkins out of the landfill.

Seasonal park facilities update: Removal of portable toilets from village parks begins the week of November 2.

Other winter shutdowns include the Lufkin Park Splash Pad, park restroom buildings and drinking fountains along the Prairie Path.

Twin Lakes and Rotary Park restrooms are expected to close after their scheduled sports activities conclude in early November.

For indoor activities and fall/winter classes, check the village’s program guide and registration system, or visit the Villa Park Recreation Center at 320 E. Wildwood Avenue.
