Week 5 Local High School Sports Roundup.

Rams, Raiders, Hilltoppers, Warriors & Broncos — September 15-21.

It was another packed week of fall sports across Lombard, Glen Ellyn and Villa Park. A crosstown football rivalry, a major Glenbard West upset, Montini's winning streak, an undefeated Willowbrook girls flag football team and strong volleyball performances were among the week's highlights.

FOOTBALL

Glenbard East 20, Glenbard South 12

The Rams earned bragging rights in Friday night's crosstown rivalry, defeating Glenbard South 20–12 in Lombard.

Glenbard East opened the scoring with a 21-yard field goal from Moises Velazquez after Montini Perry broke loose for a 64-yard run. Glenbard South answered when Tommy Bauman connected with Jordyn Warren for a 10-yard touchdown.

The Rams ultimately pulled away for the victory, improving to 3–2 overall and 2–1 in conference play. Glenbard South moved to 3–2 overall and 2–1 in conference play.

Glenbard West 37, Lyons 16

One of the area's biggest football results of the weekend came from Glenbard West.

The Hilltoppers went on the road and handed previously unbeaten Lyons its first loss of the season, 37–16.

The victory improved Glenbard West to 3–2 and came against a Lyons team that entered the night 4–0.

Montini Catholic 42, Carmel 35

The Broncos' winning streak continued Friday night with a 42–35 victory over Carmel.

Montini has now won three straight games after opening the season with a loss. The Broncos previously defeated Marist 35–28 and Nazareth Academy 47–42 before adding Friday's win over Carmel.

Montini improved to 4–1 on the season.

Hinsdale South 35, Willowbrook 16

Willowbrook wasn't able to make it four local football victories Friday, falling on the road to Hinsdale South.

The Hornets defeated the Warriors 35–16. Willowbrook moved to 2–3 on the season.

GIRLS FLAG FOOTBALL

Willowbrook's perfect season continues

The Warriors remain one of the biggest stories in our local fall sports coverage.

Willowbrook opened the week with a dominant 75–0 victory over Christ the King on Tuesday and followed it Thursday with a 46–6 win over Addison Trail.

Against Addison Trail, Willowbrook produced 320 yards of offense, including 243 passing yards and 77 rushing yards.

The two victories pushed Willowbrook to a perfect 11–0.

Glenbard West 40, Morton 0

Glenbard West also delivered a dominant performance this week.

The Hilltoppers shut out Morton 40–0, improving to 6–4 on the season.

It was another impressive defensive performance for Glenbard West and marked the program's 11th victory in its last 13 home games dating back to last season.

Glenbard East

The Rams had a difficult start to the week.

Glenbard East fell to Lake Park 27–6 Monday and then lost a closer contest to Bartlett 25–19 Tuesday.

The Rams also met Glenbard South during the week as both programs continued their conference schedules.

Glenbard South

The Raiders faced several opponents during a busy stretch of their schedule.

South closed the week Saturday against Geneva, falling 35–0. The result left Glenbard South at 1–6.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Glenbard West keeps rolling

Few local teams are hotter right now than Glenbard West girls volleyball.

The Hilltoppers defeated St. Francis 25–15, 25–11 Thursday and followed that with victories over Jones 25–13, 25–15 and Schaumburg 25–10, 25–23 during the Glenbard West Invite.

Glenbard West then defeated Glenbard East 25–14, 25–15 Saturday.

That victory extended the Hilltoppers' winning streak to 13 matches and improved their record to an impressive 18–1.

Glenbard South

The Raiders also put together an excellent stretch.

South defeated Glenbard East in three sets Tuesday and then picked up four more victories Saturday, beating Schaumburg, Addison Trail, Glenbard East and Hoffman Estates.

The five-match winning streak moved Glenbard South to 13–6 before the Raiders later dropped a three-set match to DeKalb.

Willowbrook

The Warriors continued a strong season with two more victories.

Willowbrook defeated Leyden 2–0 Tuesday and followed it with another straight-set victory over West Aurora on Thursday.

Against West Aurora, the Warriors won decisively, 25–7, 25–15.

Montini Catholic

Montini added another victory Thursday, defeating DePaul Prep in straight sets.

The Broncos won 26–24, 25–21.

Glenbard East

The Rams had a challenging week against several strong local opponents.

Glenbard South defeated East in three sets Tuesday, Addison Trail earned a 2–1 victory Wednesday, and Glenbard West topped the Rams 25–14, 25–15 during tournament action Saturday.

BOYS SOCCER

Glenbard East 1, Glenbard South 0

The Glenbard rivalry wasn't limited to the football field this week.

East and South met Tuesday in boys soccer, with the Rams edging the Raiders 1–0.

Glenbard East later faced St. Charles North, falling 4–0 Thursday.

Glenbard South

The Raiders rebounded from Tuesday's narrow loss to East with a strong Saturday performance.

Glenbard South defeated Riverside-Brookfield 4–1, improving to 4–5 overall and 2–1 in conference play.

Glenbard West

The Hilltoppers entered the week as one of the area's strongest soccer teams.

Glenbard West faced undefeated Lyons Tuesday in a matchup between two highly regarded teams. Lyons handed West a 2–0 loss, dropping the Hilltoppers to 8–2 at that point in the week.

Montini Catholic

The Broncos competed in the BodyArmor Tournament Monday and were edged by Goode STEM Academy 1–0.

Montini returned to action Wednesday against Latin but fell 4–0.

BOYS GOLF

Glenbard South had an excellent week on the course.

The Raiders finished second at the West Chicago Wildcat Invitational Monday with a team score of 321.

South then defeated Bartlett 152–180 Wednesday and Riverside-Brookfield 149–171 Thursday.

Glenbard West split a pair of notable results. York defeated the Hilltoppers 148–158 Wednesday before West bounced back Thursday to edge Downers Grove North 154–157.

Montini Catholic earned a convincing Thursday victory over De La Salle, 160–229.

CROSS COUNTRY

Local runners also competed during the week.

Glenbard West's boys hosted Hinsdale Central and Lyons at Camera Park Wednesday. Hinsdale Central won the triangular with 15 points, followed by Lyons with 50 and Glenbard West with 85.

Glenbard East's boys competed at the Marmion Run So As To Win Invitational, finishing seventh in a field that included Aurora Central Catholic, Marmion Academy, DePaul, Loyola, York and several other schools.

Cross country competition continues to pick up as teams move deeper into the fall schedule and toward the championship portion of the season.

GIRLS GOLF & SWIMMING

Glenbard West girls golf faced York Wednesday, with York earning a 150–174 victory.

Glenbard East girls golf faced Riverside-Brookfield Thursday, falling 175–201.

In girls swimming, the Glenbard East/Glenbard North co-op competed against Lake Park Thursday, with Lake Park earning a 107–50 victory.

AROUND OUR FIVE SCHOOLS

There was plenty to celebrate this week across our local high schools.

Glenbard East took the crosstown football matchup over Glenbard South, while Glenbard West handed previously unbeaten Lyons its first football loss. Montini extended its football winning streak to three games, Glenbard West volleyball continued its remarkable run, and Willowbrook girls flag football remained perfect at 11–0.

With conference races beginning to take shape, the next several weeks should bring plenty more big games, rivalry matchups and standout performances.

The Lombard Lilac Ledger follows Glenbard East, Glenbard South, Glenbard West, Willowbrook, and Montini Catholic athletics throughout the school year. Have a team accomplishment, athlete milestone or sports photo we should know about? Send it our way for consideration in an upcoming issue.

If you have read this far, you may be wondering why there is little coverage of tragic events, hate, or terrible crimes. There is already so much of that everywhere else. We want the Lombard Lilac Ledger to keep you informed while also bringing kindness, community connection, and a little joy to your Tuesday morning.

The Lombard Lilac Ledger

ยฉ 2026 The Lombard Lilac Ledger.

The Lombard Lilac Ledger is a local online newsletter for the Lombard, Glen Ellyn and Villa Park communities. It shares news, events, and fun things happening around town, along with highlights of local businesses and neighbors. Our goal is to help people stay connected and support the small businesses that make Lombard a great place to live. Each issue is positive, easy to read, and focused on bringing our community together. Because when we support local, Lombard, Glen Ellyn, and Villa Park grow stronger.
