A Celebration in Bloom: Call for Artists for "Power of Place" |
Lombard is approaching a historic milestone, and we want your creativity to be part of its legacy.
In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary in 2026, the Lombard Historical Society (LHS), the Village of Lombard, and the Lombard Park District are joining forces to present Power of Place. This juried outdoor art installation will transform Lilacia Park and the LHS grounds into an open-air gallery from June through September 2026. What makes a place significant? How do our local landscapes and shared history weave into the larger American tapestry? Power of Place invites artists to explore these questions through original works that reflect Lombard’s unique identity, its people, and its heritage. We are looking for durable, outdoor-ready artwork—think metal, ceramics, glass, or weather-resistant mixed media.

Villa Park will soon feature a restored 1914 Chicago, Aurora & Elgin Railway Car 321, donated by the Illinois Railway Museum and slated for display near the historic Ardmore Avenue station.
Union labor and local volunteers will return the vintage 55-foot railcar to its original glory, with plans for the interior to host community events and gatherings.
The railcar marks a collaboration among Villa Park, the Illinois Prairie Path, and railroad museums, celebrating the town’s legacy as a transportation hub, as the CA&E railway connected local counties to Chicago until 1957.
Village officials and supporters, like President Kevin Patrick and Ralph DiFebo, highlight the project as a new landmark and gathering place along the popular Prairie Path, drawing visitors, bikers, and history buffs alike.
The railcar’s restoration and arrival are expected this year, promising unique programs and activities for residents and visitors. Read More... |
