Did you know?

Glenbard East High School in Lombard opened in 1959, welcoming its first students that September. The school originally started with about 525 students and 28 staff.  Today the student population is 2300, Staff if roughly 180 faculty members.

Local community members are invited to attend a free seed swap event.

Participants can bring leftover seed packets or self-saved seeds, and label them with type and date.

Those without seeds to swap are still welcome to attend.

The event is open to all, whether experienced growers, newcomers, or those looking to learn.

Experts will be available to provide guidance, and attendees may end up with some valuable seeds.

Winter Family Fun in the Neighborhood

Winter Family Fun & Craft Fair Comes to Spring Avenue Rec Center

Looking for a fun, free way to spend a winter afternoon with the family? The Spring Avenue Recreation Center is hosting Winter Family Fun in the Neighborhood on Thursday, February 26, from 4:00–6:00 pm, and everyone in the community is invited!

This family-friendly event is open to all ages, with no registration required — just stop by and enjoy an afternoon of hands-on activities and entertainment. Families can look forward to:

  • Live music from Ben Tatar and the Tatar Tots

  • Arts and crafts for kids

  • Face painting

  • Interactive games

  • Nature-based activities

  • …and plenty more surprises

While you’re at the Rec Center, be sure to check out the Winter Craft Fair, happening the same day from 3:30–6:30 pm. The fair will feature 15 local vendors offering unique, handmade, and one-of-a-kind items—perfect for supporting local creators and picking up something special.

Roll for a Cause: Bunco Night Fundraiser Supports Lombard Nonprofits

Looking for a fun night out that gives back to the community? Grab your friends and head to Bunco Night on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Villa Park VFW for an evening of laughter, friendly competition, and local impact.

Bunco is a fast-paced, easy-to-learn dice game that’s perfect for both first-time players and seasoned rollers. New to the game? No worries — the evening’s emcee will kick things off with a quick tutorial before play begins, so everyone can jump right in.

After over 12 years of service, Lombard Village Manager Scott Niehaus will retire on June 19, 2026.

During his tenure, Niehaus provided leadership for various impactful projects in the community, such as infrastructure improvements, economic development efforts, and fiscal policy updates.

His leadership helped improve Lombard's financial position and bond rating.

Deputy Village Manager Nicole Aranas has been selected to succeed Niehaus, bringing over 25 years of public sector experience and a background in urban planning and municipal law.

The Village Board is confident in Aranas's ability to continue the positive trajectory set by Niehaus.

The Glen Ellyn Public Art Work Group is seeking artists for a paid project to create a public mural at the Glen Ellyn Historical Center.

The mural will depict Glen Ellyn's history from 1776 to 2026 to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Artists must have experience with large public art projects and submit a proposal by March 16, 2026.

The selected artist will receive $20,000 for their services.

The project timeline includes submission review, artist notification, proposal announcement, and project completion by June 19, 2026.

Rams Close Division Play with Win at Ridgewood

The Glenbard East boys basketball team wrapped up its Upstate Eight East Division season with a strong 73–55 win over Ridgewood, finishing division play at 11–1 and improving to 26–3 overall. Riverside Brookfield also ended the division season at 11–1.

 

Earlier in the week, the Rams picked up a 68–42 non-conference win over Bartlett at home. Glenbard East closed out the regular season with a crossover matchup at West Aurora.

 

The Rams now turn their focus to postseason play, hosting an IHSA Class 4A regional next week. They will face either Proviso East or Proviso West in the semifinal on Feb. 25, with a chance to advance to the regional final on Feb. 27.

Montini Sends Nine Wrestlers to State; Glenbard East & Willowbrook Qualify Athletes

Montini Catholic had a standout showing at the Hinsdale Central Sectional, qualifying nine wrestlers for the IHSA Class 3A Individual State Meet in Champaign.

 

Three Broncos captured sectional titles:

  • Erik Klichurov (113 lbs)

  • Allen Woo (120 lbs)

  • Bobby Ruscitti (126 lbs), who remains undefeated at 43–0

  •  

Six more Montini wrestlers earned state berths with top-four finishes. The Broncos will also compete in the Class 3A Dual Team State Meet Feb. 27–28 in Bloomington.

 

Local wrestlers also advanced to state:

  • Glenbard East seniors Ismael Chaidez (126 lbs) and Orlando Hoye (190 lbs) both qualified with fourth-place finishes.

  • Willowbrook senior Aris Neal (120 lbs) earned a state berth with a strong third-place finish.

Lombard Park District Honors 2025 Coaches of the Year

The Lombard Park District recently recognized three exceptional coaches whose dedication and leadership continue to make a positive impact on local youth sports.

 

Justin Copeland, Michael Berrier, and Vince Palmisano were honored as the 2025 Coaches of the Year at a recent board meeting. Each was recognized for their commitment, passion, and positive influence on young athletes both on and off the field.

 

“These coaches truly embody what it means to lead with integrity, encouragement, and purpose,” said Angus Shields, Director of Recreation. “We are incredibly grateful for the dedication they show to our programs and participants.”

 

The Lombard Park District is proud to celebrate these coaches and thanks them for their continued commitment to our community’s youth.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Ethan Cepuran, a speedskater from Glen Ellyn, won a silver medal in the men's team pursuit race at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

This is his second Olympic medal, with a previous bronze in Beijing in 2022.

Team U.S.A.

finished with a time of 3:43.71, earning the second spot behind Italy.

Cepuran, who started skating at age 2, has multiple accolades including a gold medal at the 2025 World Championships and participated in various other championship events.

Hoops for Hunger Brings Schools Together to Fight Local Hunger

Did you grab your Hoops for Hunger tickets yet? A brand-new, student-led event is bringing together friendly rivalry, community spirit, and a powerful mission — helping make hunger history right here in DuPage County.

This inaugural Hoops for Hunger event is organized by the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry’s Junior Board, a passionate group of students from Glenbard South, Glenbard West, and Wheaton North High Schools. They’ve created a fresh twist on the classic Crosstown matchup by combining a weeklong food drive with an exciting basketball showdown — all to benefit local families in need.

Throughout the week leading up to the game, Glenbard South and Glenbard West students will compete to collect the most food donations at their schools. The competition wraps up with a high-energy basketball tournament on:
