Lombard Police: “Put the Phone Away or Pay” |
April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, and the Lombard Police Department is increasing enforcement on distracted driving as part of a statewide safety campaign.
“Even a few seconds of distraction can have serious consequences,” said Lt. Tom Balsitis. Drivers are urged to stay focused every time they’re behind the wheel.
Safety reminders:
Under Illinois law, handheld device use while driving is illegal and may result in fines.
Expect increased patrols throughout April as Lombard Police partner with IDOT, Illinois State Police, and over 200 agencies statewide to reinforce the message: Put the phone away or pay. |
Lombard Police Introduce “Blue Envelope” Program |
The Lombard Police Department is now participating in Illinois’ Blue Envelope Program, designed to support safer, more understanding interactions during traffic stops—especially for drivers on the autism spectrum or those who may need additional communication support.
The free, voluntary program provides a blue envelope to store important documents and offers guidance to help promote calm, clear communication between drivers and officers. Residents can pick up a Blue Envelope at the Lombard Police Department or Village Hall during regular hours.

North Grace Street Improvement Project Begins This Spring |
The Village of Lombard is moving forward with a major improvement project along North Grace Street, stretching from East St. Charles Road to North Avenue (Route 64).
This project will include road resurfacing, new curbs and sidewalks, drainage and storm sewer upgrades, and driveway improvements. New off-road shared-use paths will also be added—connecting the Great Western Trail to Prairie Avenue and Sunset Avenue to the Lombard Lagoon—helping close key gaps in the local bike and pedestrian network.
Construction is expected to begin in late April or early May 2026 and continue through November 2026.
Residents can expect occasional driveway access restrictions during certain phases of construction, along with temporary parking adjustments.
