Glen Ellyn Chamber Backs New Downtown Park Project with $2,500 Donation

The Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce has donated $2,500 to the Glen Ellyn Parks Foundation to support the “From Parking Lot to Park!” campaign for the future Downtown Community Park.

Chamber and Parks Foundation board members recently gathered at the future park site to view construction progress and celebrate the growing community support behind the project.

The future downtown park is expected to include a seasonal skating rink, children’s nature play area, and pavilion performance space designed for community events and family activities.

The Glen Ellyn Parks Foundation continues fundraising efforts through donations and its Legacy Brick Program. Community members and businesses interested in supporting the project before the park’s projected Fall 2026 opening can participate through July 10.

For more information or to donate, visit geparksfoundation.org

Glen Ellyn Splash Park closed for the 2026 season.

Recent preseason assessments of the Maryknoll Splash Park, located at 845 Pershing Avenue, identified the need for essential infrastructure repairs and maintenance. The facility was originally scheduled to open on May 23; however, during planned repairs to the pump and mechanical area, it was discovered that more substantial infrastructure work was needed than originally anticipated. As a result, the Glen Ellyn Park District has made the difficult decision to keep the Splash Park closed for the 2026 season.

They understand how much residents value this space and share in the disappointment this closure may bring to families and the community. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work to maintain the high standards of our parks and facilities. Residents are encouraged to explore additional opportunities to play and stay active this summer on our website, gepark.org.

Lombard Blood Drive Coordinator Honored for Years of Service

Village of Lombard Executive Coordinator Carol Bauer was recognized May 13 by Versiti Blood Center of Illinois for her longtime dedication to coordinating community blood drives throughout Lombard.

Bauer, the village’s blood drive coordinator, was honored for helping expand both village-sponsored and partner blood drives over the years. During the recognition event, representatives from Versiti highlighted Bauer’s leadership and ongoing efforts to bring together community organizations, donors, and volunteers in support of local blood donation drives.

Versiti also shared the continuing need for blood donations, noting that although many people are eligible to donate, only a small percentage regularly do so. One unit of donated blood can help save up to three lives.

Lombard’s blood drive program has grown significantly over the years, increasing from just a few drives annually to more than 30 community blood drives each year.

According to Versiti, the organization partners with 437 hospitals across Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan, including more than 65 hospitals throughout the Chicagoland area.

Residents interested in donating can learn more or schedule an appointment through Versiti Blood Center of Illinois

Meet Liam

Hi, I'm Liam! I'm an 8 week old mix breed. I currently weigh 10 pounds and will likely be a large boy when I grow up. I know.. I know.. I got the cutest sad eyes, but I promise I'm a sweet and happy boy. I play nicely with the other dogs in my foster home and I'm respectful of the cats here too. I love chewing on bones, chasing tennis balls and giving puppy kisses (complete with puppy breath). I sleep peacefully in my crate at night too. I would make an amazing addition to any family that wants a large lovebug in their life. 💙
