Storms, school dates, secret gardens, pool parties, grand openings & more β€” your community is buzzing! 🌟

Aug 4, 2026

On July 27th, the area was hit with severe storms. Glen Ellyn did have a recorded EF0 Tornado hit.

Following the July 27 storm, Village crews, ComEd, public safety personnel and contractors worked throughout Glen Ellyn to clear debris, reopen streets and restore electrical service. Residents should visit the Village of Glen Ellyn and ComEd websites for the latest cleanup and outage information.

Lombard crews continue working throughout the village following last week's severe storms as debris removal and cleanup efforts continue.

Lombard Public Works crews have been working and continue working throughout the community to clear storm debris from parkway trees and other public areas following yesterday's severe storms. As cleanup efforts continue, the Village will collect storm-damaged tree debris from parkway trees throughout the Village. The Village will also collect debris from private trees located north of Roosevelt Road, in accordance with Village Board policy.

If tree limbs are in contact with power lines, stay away and report the issue to ComEd. A ComEd contractor will remove limbs from power lines in coordination with ComEd after the lines have been de-energized.

Private tree debris placed at the parkway after Sunday, Aug. 2 will not be collected as part of this storm cleanup.

This collection effort is expected to continue throughout the next several days and into next week. We appreciate residents' patience as crews work to restore conditions throughout the community.

Damage to parkway trees, fallen limbs, and other non-emergency issues on Village property can be reported through the SeeClickFix app or online at www.villageoflombard.org/seeclickfix
For any additional questions, please contact the Public Works Department at (630) 620-5740.

Wait before You Buy School Supplies- There are Tax Savings $$$

Planning your back-to-school shopping? The timing could make a difference.

Illinois’ back-to-school sales-tax reduction runs from August 7 through August 16, lowering the state portion of sales tax on eligible school supplies, clothing and footwear.

What shoppers should know:

✏️ Qualifying school supplies are not subject to the $125 price cap
πŸ‘• Eligible clothing must be priced under $125 per item
πŸ‘Ÿ Eligible footwear must be priced under $125 per pair
🧾 City, county and other local sales taxes may still be charged

This is a temporary reduction in the state sales-tax rate, not a completely tax-free shopping event. Still, families purchasing supplies, clothes or shoes for the new school year may save by shopping during the designated dates.

Pass this along to a parent, grandparent or caregiver preparing for the school year.

Volunteers Needed for Love Your Neighbor Day

Organizers of the 12th annual Love Your Neighbor Day are seeking volunteers from local churches and the community to serve homeowners in Lombard and Villa Park on Saturday, Sept. 19. Love Your Neighbor Day covers the cost of materials and supplies
through grants and contributions.

Volunteers will work in small groups to assist local homeowners with yard work, outdoor cleanup and minor exterior repairs. Church groups, families, friends, scout troops and community organizations are encouraged to register and may volunteer together as a team.

Volunteers ages 11 to 17 are welcome when accompanied by a parent, youth group leader or scout leader.

Last year, 145 volunteers came together to help 35 homeowners in Lombard and Villa Park. The number of residents who can receive assistance this year will depend on how many volunteers sign up.

Volunteer sign-up sheets and homeowner applications can be obtained on the website of the Christian Church of Villa Park at www.ccvponline.net or by sending an e-mail to
loveyourneighbor15@yahoo.com or leaving a message at 630-833-7262.  The deadline for signing up to volunteer is September 6, 2026.

Homeowners in Lombard and Villa Park who are experiencing financial, physical, or other limitations may also apply to receive assistance. Approved work is completed at no cost to the homeowner. The homeowner application deadline is Sunday, Aug. 16, and early applications are encouraged.

Additional information and photos from previous years are available on the Love Your Neighbor Day Facebook page.

America250 Benefit Raises More Than $30,000 for York Township Food Pantry

Nearly 2,000 people attended York Township’s America250 Benefit on June 28 at Knolls Park, helping raise more than $30,000 for the York Township Food Pantry.

The community celebration featured live music, family activities, local vendors, food trucks and Touch-a-Truck attractions. A community dunk tank featuring local elected officials raised an additional $2,200 for the pantry.

Proceeds will help the York Township Food Pantry provide food and essential household items to local families experiencing food insecurity. York Township thanked the volunteers, sponsors, performers and community partners who helped make the event a success.
