Lombard has rescheduled its fireworks! Save the Date

Mark your calendars! The Village of Lombard's America 250 Fireworks Display has been rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 6, at Madison Meadow Park!

We're excited to continue celebrating America's 250th anniversary with our community over Labor Day weekend. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked with the Lombard Park District and fireworks contractor to find a new date.

DATE: Sunday Sept 6th at Dusk
Additional event details, including parking restrictions and viewing areas, will be shared as the event approaches.

Due to the severe storms and widespread flooding over the Independence Day holiday weekend, many communities were forced to postpone their fireworks celebrations. Fortunately, several local displays have now been rescheduled, giving families another chance to enjoy the summer tradition.

A fascinating new exhibit at the Sheldon Peck Homestead explores Lombard’s connection to one of the Civil War’s largest Union prisoner-of-war camps.

“Camp Douglas and the Civil War at Home” tells the story of General Benjamin Sweet, a prominent Lombard resident who commanded Camp Douglas in Chicago during the final years of the Civil War after being severely wounded at the Battle of Perryville.

The traveling exhibit, on loan from the Camp Douglas Restoration Fund, features archaeological artifacts, photographs, and stories about Camp Douglas, which housed more than 30,000 Confederate prisoners between 1862 and 1865. Visitors will also learn about Sweet’s daughter, Ada Celeste Sweet, a pioneering federal official who worked at the camp, and Sanford Peck, the teenage son of Sheldon and Harriet Peck, who joined the Union Army at just 15 years old.

Lombard Historical Society Executive Director Alison Costanzo says the exhibit helps visitors see how local history connects to larger national events. "We work really hard here to tell an interesting story based on fact,” Costanzo said. “We are telling these amazing things that happened by ordinary people.”

The exhibit is open noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays through the end of November at the Sheldon Peck Homestead. Admission is free, and donations are appreciated.

Location: Sheldon Peck Homestead, 355 E. Parkside Ave., Lombard

Cannoli Is Ready to Love Again

Cannoli Is Ready to Love Again
Sometimes life changes in an instant.
Sweet Cannoli, a stunning 7-year-old long-haired black and white beauty, recently arrived at Cat Guardians after losing the home she once knew. While her world may look very different today, she hasn't given up hope that a loving family is still waiting for her.
Cannoli has a gentle, loving heart and a quiet spirit that will melt yours. She enjoys spending time with her human friends, happily accepting pets, kind words, and the affection she has been missing. Every day, she patiently waits, wondering if the next person to walk through the door will be the one who takes her home forever.
At seven years old, Cannoli still has so much love to give. She dreams of sunny windows for bird watching, a cozy bed to curl up in, and a family who will cherish her for the beautiful soul she is.
Could you be the one to give Cannoli the fresh start she's been wishing for?
Complete an adoption application and schedule an appointment to meet this beautiful girl. She may have lost her home, but with your love, she'll finally find where she truly belongs.
