Village of Villa Park Upcoming Public Meetings

Friday July 3rd: All Village Offices are Closed in Observance of Independence Day

Most meetings are held at Village Hall, 20 S. Ardmore Avenue, Villa Park, unless otherwise noted.

Lombard’s Village Board has unanimously green-lit a new membership-based auto storage facility and Octane Lounge at the former Pep Boys site on Roosevelt Road.

The project will accommodate up to 29 vehicles and introduces a unique business category to the local zoning code.

Trustees added conditions such as temporary fencing, enhanced security cameras, new signage, and a ban on outdoor events to address concerns of nearby residents.

Despite ongoing worries about noise, traffic, and unauthorized gatherings, petitioner Ahmed Khan assured that all activities will remain indoors, serving 300–500 members without large car events outside.

Trustees acknowledged both resident apprehension and the project’s fresh take on automotive uses, with many appreciating the developer’s cooperation on safety.

The board also banned U-turns at Finley Road and 22nd Street and restricted parking near 951 N. Ridge Avenue to boost traffic and flood safety.

Village of Lombard Noise Ordinance

Did you know? The Village's Noise Ordinance helps balance the needs of residents, businesses, construction activity and community events while protecting neighborhood quality of life.
The ordinance addresses excessive noise from sources such as loud parties, commercial equipment, construction activity outside permitted hours and vehicles with modified exhaust systems or other alterations that create excessive noise. Construction, landscaping and similar outdoor activities involving power equipment are prohibited near residential properties from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekends.
If you are experiencing an active noise disturbance and would like an officer to respond, please call 9-1-1.

Glen Ellyn Park District Targets Earlier Reopening for Maryknoll Splash Pad 2028

The Glen Ellyn Park District is moving forward with plans to repair the Maryknoll Park splash pad without pursuing a state grant, a decision that could get the popular summer attraction back open a year sooner.

At its June 16 meeting, the Park District Board decided not to apply for an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant after determining the lengthy grant process would likely delay reopening until 2029.

Instead, the district plans to fund the project through its own budget, allowing work to begin sooner. Staff hope to complete public input, design, and permitting by the end of 2026, with construction taking place throughout 2027 and into 2028.

If the project stays on schedule, the Maryknoll splash pad could reopen by Independence Day 2028.

The splash pad has remained closed this year after significant structural issues were discovered that require extensive repairs.

Garden Station Project Moves Closer to Approval in Villa Park

The proposed Garden Station development is one step closer to becoming a reality after receiving renewed approval from the Village's Planning and Zoning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals. The project now heads to the Village Board of Trustees for final consideration.

If approved, Garden Station is expected to become the largest net-zero mixed-use residential development in the United States. The transit-oriented community will feature energy-efficient apartments built to Passive House standards, helping reduce utility costs while offering nearly 30 resident amenities, including a resort-style pool, fitness center, co-working spaces, dog park, pet spa, movie theater, and community gathering areas.

After earlier financing delays, the project is back on track and aims to help address DuPage County's housing shortage while supporting Villa Park's long-term sustainability and economic development goals.

The Village of Villa Park is seeking more resident feedback on the proposed Ardmore Avenue Improvement Project after hosting a recent Public Information Meeting.

The project spans Ardmore Avenue from Roosevelt Road to North Avenue, now in its preliminary engineering phase.

Input from community members is crucial, as federal funding depends on public involvement to guide final plans.

Residents who missed the meeting can still review materials and are encouraged to email suggestions to engineering@invillapark.com by Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

All comments submitted by this deadline will be added to the official record.

More information and presentation slides can be found on the village website.

The Lombard Lilac Ledger will continue bringing local updates as the project advances.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over

As Lombard residents and visitors prepare to celebrate Independence Day, the Lombard Police Department is reminding everyone to make safety part of their holiday plans.

From June 19 through July 6, officers will participate in a statewide traffic safety campaign focused on reducing impaired driving, increasing seat belt use, and keeping our roads safe during one of the busiest travel periods of the summer.

A few simple choices can make a big difference: wear your seat belt, put the phone away, never drive impaired and plan ahead for a safe ride home if your celebrations include alcohol, cannabis or any other impairing substance.

New Illinois E-Bike Rules Take Effect July 1

New statewide regulations for electric bikes, scooters, skateboards, unicycles, and other micromobility devices will take effect across Illinois on July 1.

The new law establishes uniform rules and classifications for low-speed e-bikes and other electric devices, while setting the stage for stricter requirements on higher-speed models capable of exceeding 28 mph. Beginning January 1, 2027, some faster e-bikes and e-motos may require registration, licensing, insurance, and titles.

State officials say the changes are needed as injuries and fatalities involving micromobility devices have increased significantly in recent years. Several suburban communities, including Elmhurst, La Grange, Oak Lawn, and Glenview, have already adopted local regulations in response to safety concerns.

Supporters of the legislation say the new statewide standards will reduce confusion for riders, parents, law enforcement, and municipalities while improving safety on Illinois roads and paths.

Residents who own or operate electric bikes or scooters are encouraged to review the new rules before they take effect on July 1.

As residents prepare to celebrate Independence Day, the Lombard Fire Department is reminding the community that fireworks can cause serious injuries, fires and property damage when not handled properly.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), thousands of people are treated in emergency rooms each year for fireworks-related injuries. Children and teenagers continue to be among the groups most frequently injured, with burns to the hands, fingers, face and eyes among the most common injuries. Sparklers, often perceived as harmless, can burn at temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees and are responsible for hundreds of injuries each year.

Residents are also reminded that the use, possession or discharge of fireworks such as firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles and similar devices is prohibited in Illinois and is a violation of state law and Village ordinances. Novelty items, including sparklers, snakes and party poppers, are permitted but should be used with caution.

The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional display, such as Lombard's annual Fourth of July Fireworks Show at Madison Meadow Park. Those choosing to use novelty fireworks should follow these safety guidelines:

  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
  • Always supervise children closely around novelty fireworks.
  • Never use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Use fireworks outdoors and away from homes, vehicles, dry vegetation, and other flammable materials.
  • Light one device at a time and maintain a safe distance.
  • Never attempt to relight a malfunctioning firework.
  • Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby in case of fire or to safely dispose of used fireworks.
  • Dispose of spent fireworks by soaking them in water before placing them in the trash.

The Lombard Fire Department encourages residents to celebrate responsibly and leave larger fireworks displays to trained professionals. Anyone with questions regarding fireworks safety or regulations may contact Fire Marshal Perry Johnson at (630) 873-4576.

Montini Catholic Mourns Legendary Coach and Teacher Bill Leeberg

The Montini Catholic community is remembering longtime English teacher and legendary baseball coach Bill Leeberg, who passed away on June 15.

A member of Montini's first graduating class in 1970, Leeberg returned to his alma mater after college and dedicated his career to teaching and coaching. During his 33 seasons as head baseball coach, he compiled an outstanding 732-288 record while leading the Broncos to 12 conference championships, 14 regional titles, three sectional championships, a third-place finish at the 2002 IHSA Class A State Tournament, and a state runner-up finish in 2005.

Leeberg was inducted into the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame before retiring from coaching in 2011.

Beyond the baseball field, generations of students fondly remember Leeberg's dramatic recitation of Casey at the Bat, a classroom tradition that became so beloved he was invited to perform it at charity events throughout the community.

His lasting impact on Montini Catholic and the lives of countless students and athletes will be remembered for years to come.
